My Favourite Film

My favourite film that i have chosen is Superbad.

The genre’s for the film Superbad is Comedy because their is a lot of humour. Also another genre is teens, because it features teenagers/young adults. The film has what every teenager would want to see like brief nudity, sexual situations and comedy punch lines.

The Synopsis:
Seth, Evan and Fogell are three teenage guys who love to drink and desperately wish to get laid. When a girl that Seth really likes, asks him to get the drink for her party, he sees this as a perfect opportunity to make her his girlfriend. The three of them plan out how to get the alcohol, even including Fogell's new fake ID, but things won't go smoothly for the trio. Seth and Evan become separated from Fogell (now called McLovin which is his name on his fake ID) and they still haven't got the alcohol for the party that night.

180-degree rule

The 180-degree rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters that are in the same scene should always have the same left to right relationship with eachother. If the camera passes over the imaginary line(on picture to left) connecting the two subjects it is called, crossing the line.

Main Task Brief

Me and my group should create the titles and the opening of a new fiction film that lasts no longer than 2-3 minutes. We will work together to; create, film and edit the film we decide to make and we have decided to share the parts of the task to make are group have an even part in the producrion of our main task.

Preliminary Task

My preliminary exercise is a continuity task that involves filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing the room they enter and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. The task will demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Research into other American Football Films

Our film is about an English college/university teaching American football. I have searched websites for other films that are about American football. Here are a few:

· The express – the film is based on a true story during the 1940’s were racism is very strong in America. Ernie Davis a young African, American boy becomes the target of racial abuse. He has a strong talent for American football and goes to Syracuse University. He becomes one of the greatest American footballers to play for the university. However in his mid 20’s, he suffered from leukaemia and died on May 18th 1963.

· The water boy – this is about a boy (Adam Sandler) who has a job for an American football team by serving water to the players during games and training. His talent is noticed when a player take the mickie out of him so he runs over and tackles him. From there on he joins the football team and wins them very important games.

· The Longest yard – another American football film starring Adam Sandler who is a former NFL player (Paul Crewe) who has been sentenced to 3 years in prison for grand theft auto. In prison the governors have decided to host a convict’s v Prison staff match to all the public. Paul is the main star of the conflicts team and because of this they win the game despite all the dirty tricks the prison guards try to pull off.

These 3 films all have different scenarios but all feature American football. These will help with our main task because we now have different options in which to include American football.

weather conditions 1

we were going to film on friday but noticed that it was very foggy so this men that we couldnt film the scenes of juno because it would look funny if half of it was done in foggy conditions and the other half in normal conditions

group meeting 1

we had a group meeting on friday 27th of november units 3 and 4 so we could discuss the possibilities of places to film our opening sequence to juno. during this meeting we have made some good progress and have found some possible places that we could use for the filming. we are still however trying to find a good place to try and attempt the overhead shot.we should be meeting most fridays so that we can sort things out and soon make a start on the actual filming.

Opening of Snatch

The opening of Snatch has a t.v monitor where it is showing a group of bearded men being checked by a metal detector through the cctv cameras. at the bottom of the monitors which is in black and white are the names of the actors and the people that produced and directed the film ect. So as the men walk down the corridors the camera moves along the monitors to the next cctv cameras and follows them until they come to the last door. Behind this door is where all the cctv monitors are so it pans right and watches the men walk through. One of the men pulls of his jacket and reveals guns which all the men grab and threaten the group of workers to get on the floor. By this time it has gone to colour. One man picks up a worker and hits him with his gun twice and asks where the stone is. It then cuts to the men in the back of there man with a shiny stone. They reveal themselves by taking of their masks they were wearing. A man picks up the stone and looks into it and that is wear it adds quick paced music and snacth is written underlined across the stone. The stone is spinning and then when it stops after about 3 seconds it has changed to a man looking at the diamond through a magnifieing glass. As he glances left the screen freezes and his name comes up. It then carries on and Cousin Avi puts the stone in a safe. The camera moves right and shows a different man picking something out of his safe. The screen freezes on him and says Sol. It then changes to Mickey, Vinnie, Franky four fingers, Turkish, Gorgoeus George, Tommy, Bullet tooth Tony, Boris the Blade, Doug the Head and Brick Top. After it reveals the characters, it goes back to the man(sitting in the van) looking through the stone and he then places it in a case. that is were the opening titles and storyline end.

Main Task Synopsis

In our media film it will be based on a 16 year old boy who has applied for a place in Plymouth University. He makes it into the university and does not realise that he is quite different to all the other children. Because he is classed as a geek by all the other kids he is severely bullied by them and his school life looks as if it’s going to be a living hell. As a practical joke a group of boys decide to sign him up for the American football team thinking that he will be easy to take down and will make a fool of himself in front of all the school. When he is forced to go to football practice by the team he realises that he has the best throw that the school has ever seen. Because of his talent the team become friendlier towards him and don’t bully him. The only problem is that the rest of the school still bully him and make his life hell. The boy becomes angry and asks one of the more popular guys in the team to teach him how not to be a geek. This goes badly and makes things worse. He is assigned the role as quarter back and he plays in the first game of the league. Unfortunately he is taken down left right and centre and his concentration is distracted by the crowed making jokes about him. This makes the team lose the game. The coach however still believes that he has the ability to win and decides to give him some one to one training sessions that will train him to withstand tackles better and be able to make better plays. After being placed on the bench for the rest of the season he is felling rejected but still wants to play. On the last game of the season the replacement quarter back is reported injured and the boy is asked to take his place. The whole team is feeling like there is no point to the game because he will fail like last time but they don’t know that he has been training and has improved lots. When the boy scores the first points the team realise that he is better and become friendlier towards him and support him. Because of this they win the match and win the league. The boy is then better respected but realises that he hasn’t put any effort into his studies and knows that he is going to fail all his exams. All of the members from the football team put all their knowledge together and create a book that has all the information that the boy will need to pass his exams. He spends the next few days reading the book and when it comes to his exam day he smiles at his exam paper and his confidence makes him succeed. There is an end of year party and the boy finds the love of his life and he dances with her and they get together and have the best time of their lives. At the end of the film we get shown a future clip of the boy’s life and what he did with himself after university. We see that he carries on training and joins the Arizona diamonds football team and gets fame and fortune. Then we see he gets married and has two kids with the woman from the party.
Are group has had to adjust a few ideas because at first we had are setting in america but realised that none of us have an american accent so we have changed the name to plymouth university as it is in england so we can use are normal voices.
