Question 1

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The genre of our film is comedy and sport because we have based our film on American Football and have added some parts of comedy in to keep the audience engaged. We have based our geek on ‘Adam Sandler’ in ‘Waterboy’ because he plays a geeky boy that gives out water to the Football team but ends finding he has an amazing talent. Our geek character has his backpack up as high as possible, and also has ankle swingers. These are the recognised symbols of a geek.

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our Media Product represents social groups of geeks as our films main character is based on a geek that finds his hidden talent for American Football. The geek comes into much conflict like situations with the school bully which is another social group because most films we researched has a bully that always picks on the geeks.

Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The kind of media institution we were hoping that would distribute our product would be a small company from the UK, for instance Film 4 or even smaller. This is because our film is a small British film with an all British cast. We hope Film 4 would produce our film because I have researched into them a little and found out that they don’t just show films-they make them as well. They develop and co-finance a slate of smart and distinctive films. For example, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘this is England’, these were two films that other companies thought wouldn’t do as well as they have. This is the type of company we are looking for to help produce and make our film.

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?
I think we have two or three audiences to base our film on. Firstly, any American Football fans from around the country, even the world would be interested as our film is based on a boy who finds he has a good ability in American Football. Secondly, teenagers interested in sports films with a hint of comedy would be ideal audiences as our film has comedy parts to keep the audience engaged.

Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract and address our audience, we researched into many films varying from all sorts of sport films and comedies. We did this so we were able to see what sort of things attract the audiences and the sort of audiences we would attract from our opening of the film. We got very useful information from researching similar types of films and used some in our opining scene. We have added some comedy at the beginning were the boy gets his head flushed down the toilet to try and keep the audiences interested and make them laugh.

Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt about a lot of new technologies I never knew before. For instance, the program ‘Adobe Premiere Project’ is the program we used to edit our film. This is a complicated program but as we got further in the project we was able to practice on it on the Preliminary Exercise, which enabled us to be more informed of the program. Also a lot of the camera shots were unknown to me at the start of the project but as we went on, the terms became more knowledgeable to me and we were able to a lot of these shots into our main task.

Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
I feel that I have learnt how to pull off a lot, if not all the camera shots needed to complete our film. I have learnt this from my preliminary task because it was just a short exercise to practice on and it meant I could get used to what sort of shots to do and how to do them. Also, the preliminary exercise was useful for many other things to do with the main task for example, lighting, sound and the types of costumes our main task will need. This is our preliminary task which was a practice exercise to practice on the camera shots etc.

This image is of the location from our first scene involving the geek and the bully. We chose this location as there was space to take all the shots properly.

This is our camera in a toilet in a position to start recording. We placed it on top of some toilet roll to be able to get the right height to record.

This is our group using the computer to access the program adobe premiere pro. We are using this program so we are able to edit our opening sequence together.

This is me(zak) setting up the camera in one of our locations.
